The greatest rap video of all time

Uncategorized June 17th, 2009

M.O.P’s "Rugged Neva Smoove" is hands down the greatest rap video ever made. Amidst all this tri-color Bape retro, Sonic The Hedgehog, fish eye lens, aloe n lanolin, St. Tropez rent-a-site shit today, I miss videos like these. The fact that there was no sense of polish, flash, couth, sex appeal, class or fashion sense whatsoever is a style in itself. All you need are condemned buildings, inoperable hoopties, dogs, bats, crutches and some goons with missing teeth. Budget: $250. These were the good old days, 1993-94. You could look up to par with a trip to the army-navy shop or just rockin a champion hood. A fro, a baldy or a ceaser or some braids…the cheapest hairstyles you can get. Then Puffy and the Bad Boy fam came in and fucked it all up and raised the god damn bar on broke dudes like myself with them fresh line ups and those god damn #1 and #2 throwback jerseys, thanks Sean! Nah, I’m playin, Puff is hilarious, but lets not forget Biggie’s appeal with a green field jacket and a pair of dice.

Nobody in this video looks like someone that some young girl could bring home to meet mom, no sir. Special shout out to Lil Fame, who I had the pleasure of doing a few tracks with a few years ago. He’s a beast on the beats too. But here is M.O.P., in all their rogue, young, knucklehead glory in the best rap video ever cut, "Rugged Neva Smoove". Oh, and I included the OG version on purpose. Not to take away from Primo’s dope remix (which everybody liked better), but this version is just more barbaric, non-musical and suitable for the whole vibe.

this is a great one! maybe a close 2nd is the mc rell and the houserockers vid ‘into the future’…for one because it’s in the junkied out band shell where they did wildstyle. i’m pretty sure rell or someone in his crew stepped on a needle and died from the filming of this. Mainly though, it’s the dapper dan pope hat that rell not only had made, but rocked proudly! he thought he was gonna come off trying to sound like rakim lite…it’s great! coming up, big fu-shnickens news.
